Zebedee & I had one last week long adventure before he officially joined up with the US Marines. He is now in Basic Training for 3 months.

The Knife Edge is exactly what it says. It looks like a serrated knife as you hike along the ridge of these mountains. Completely exposed to each side of you East & West. Dangerous in the snow season. even in the summer there are snow fields/glaciers that need to be crossed. This is an area that I have had on my bucket list of hikes for quite a few years. It didn’t disappoint. the views were endless, and as beautiful as you could imagine.

We camped at Walupt Lake after leaving a car at White Pass. This is a popular campground 20 miles up a dirt road. A very pretty spot, however way too many people. The stream coming out of the lake was full of Crawfish. We caught a few and cooked them up for dinner. They are basically a freshwater lobster. They weren’t my favorite, however if you added enough butter, I suppose they would be alright. Zebedee and I left from there the next morning and embarked on our 33 mile journey. A modest hike, we spent about 5 days in the wilderness, the “Goat Rocks Wilderness”.

The most incredible time, not including the Knife Edge, was the Thunder/Lightening Storm that came through as we were camped on the ridge at Goat Lake. The Scariest & most Fun experience that we could imagine. We didn’t know if our Ultra Light Tents would be torn to shreds or make it through the night. The wind, the Sand, then the mud and Rain, the hail, and then the lightening & thunder its self was simply Powerful.

What an adventure, and the last one before my son officially joined the Marines. I am so proud of the Man he has become, I miss him so much. We have alway’s connected in the mountains. The mountains are the place that one can connect closest to God
